Where is The Book of Morman mentioned anymore? What about the prophets and Joseph Smith and Brigham Young? I liked the stories of the move from Illinois
to Utah under the harshest of conditions.
As far as plural marriage, it was a convenient way to populate a church and a mission that was teetering on the edge. The Christian had his mistress, and yet they persecuted Joeph Smith and followers.
From these marriages, now illegal, sprang the roots for a state that
has moved with the times and produced writers, artists, educators and some very honest politicians.
The LDS people are a good people who believe in education, children, family, and prospering through hard work. I don't want to imply that I speak for them but I was a resident of Utah for several years working right alongside them; I experienced little prejudice, if any. they seemed able to laugh at their own foibles and missteps; a sign of a truly remarkable and resilient people. They recognize their faults and do not bury problems in the sand but put the best to work at solving the problem. They quietly go about their chores, helping one another, without expectation of payment or attention to themselves.
Through missionary work they have exported wholesome values all over the world. I haven't heard of any Morman trying to take over
any government here or anywhere else.
While my objections to any of the organized religions extends to my own church, and therefore to the Mormans, the differences I have are so small and insignificant that they are unworthy of mention.
For those who have heard rumors and are unsure, I hope this dispels some of the false stuff about the Mormans. I am not a politician but a simple writer who follows his conscience. Our first Catholic president
was not found wanting because of any allegiance to Rome. He listened to the concerns of the people and they were satisfied with his answers. The American people have the capacity to discard untruths and missteps of the church in the past. We don't live in the past; We need to focus on the present and the good that comes of the
faith of the Mormans.
Remember Jesus' admonition to "cast the first stone, he who is without sin."
